The Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (hereinafter SORS) is the main producer of official statistics in the Republic of Serbia and the principal coordinator of all activities concerning the development, production, and dissemination of official statistics within the System of official statistics. When the sources of administrative data of respective contents and quality are available, SORS does not conduct the data collection from the reporting units but takes over the data relevant for statistical production from the administrative data sources. The sources of administrative data are records, registers, databases and datasets that, according to the respective legislation, are established and maintained the public authorities and other legal entities.

In accordance with the Official Statistics Law ("Official Gazette of the RS", No 104/2009), SORS shall have the right of access to all administrative data sources of public administration bodies, including identifiers if required, as well as the right of access to data collected applying the method of constant monitoring and observation. SORS takes part in all activities concerning the establishment of new or the changes of existing administrative data sources, or in the activities related to the sources providing the data based on constant monitoring and observation, which are also relevant for official statistics.

Following are the institutions and legal entities with whom SORS concluded Memorandum of Understanding as regards the transmission of data: Serbian Business Registers Agency, Ministry of Finance – Tax Administration, Ministry of Finance – Treasury administration, National Bank of Serbia, Bar Association of Serbia, Pension and Disability Insurance Fund, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Labour, Employment,Veteran and Social Affairs,Serbian Chamber of Notaries, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Finance – Customs Administration, POŠTA / PTT, Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Central Register of Compulsory Social Insurance Payers, National Employment Service
